Join the Lead for Learners Steering Committee

KnowledgeWorks is looking for five to six learner-centered leaders to join its Lead for Learners Steering Committee. Through a two-year term starting in September 2024, selected educators will serve alongside continuing members of the 2023-24 steering committee cohort to advance the following priorities:
Leadership Development and Learning: Design programs and resources that support current and emerging leaders in personalized, competency-based systems and fill gaps in current education leadership preparation programs
Network Development and Sustainability: Grow and sustain a national professional learning community focused on leading in personalized, competency-based systems
Advocacy: Collectively advocate for more equitable, student-centered education systems
What will Steering Committee members do?
- Work alongside fellow committee members to support the advancement of the following priority action items:
- Portrait of a Leader: Define a collective vision for the transformational leadership mindsets and skills educators need to lead sustainable student-centered education systems change through personalized, competency-based learning
- Emerging Leaders: Develop professional learning pathways that build the transformational leadership capacity learning communities need to sustain systemic change
- Advocacy agenda and action plans: Establish issue areas and strategies to collectively advocate for learner-centered systems change
- Structures for sustainability: Outline operational approaches and structures to ensure ongoing growth, responsiveness and sustainability
- Co-facilitate Lead for Learners working groups to capture diverse perspectives and ensure action plans remain responsive to educator needs
- Develop future action plans in response to the needs of educators
- Share learning and build community with other personalized, competency-based learning leaders from across the country
Anticipated commitments: September 2024 through September 2026
- Attend four in-person collaborations per year hosted at fellow steering committee member sites, including a kick-off convening scheduled for September 26-27, 2024 at Westminster Public Schools in Westminster, Colorado
- Join monthly two-hour virtual collaborations with fellow steering committee members and KnowledgeWorks
- Support committee-developed action plans and facilitation of Lead for Learners working groups
- Contribute to regular personalized peer coaching, speaking engagements, insight gathering, content review and/or network growth initiative
- Support onboarding of the 2025 steering committee member cohort
How will Steering Committee members benefit?
- Leadership development: Personal support and coaching
- Stipend: $2,000 from KnowledgeWorks
- Professional Field Trips: Paid site visits to four schools/districts to learn from educators and/or visit learner-centered classrooms
Selection considerations
Ideal applicants will meet most or all of the following criteria:
- At least one year of experience working in a school or district that is pursuing sustainable education systems change through personalized, competency-based learning
- Recent experience working in teacher leadership, instructional coaching, school leadership, district administration or other instructional leadership role focused on supporting the advancement of learner-centered systems and practices
- Connections with local, regional or state-level educator networks with a focus on advancing personalized learning or related learner-centered practices
- Demonstrated commitment to education equity
